A sticking slider is often a $150 to $450 roller job, or $250 to $700 if the track itself is worn. Swapping in a new two-panel impact door is around $3,500 to $7,000 fitted here, while three- and four-panel walls come to $6,500 to $13,000.

Almost every Cape home has at least one slider, usually opening onto the lanai and the pool. They take more abuse than any window: opened dozens of times a day, sand and grit in the bottom track, and a full wall of glass facing the weather. When they fail, they usually fail slowly, getting harder to push until one day the door jumps the track.

Repair first, when it makes sense

When the frame is solid and the glass isn’t fogged, a slider can usually be brought back:

  • Rollers. Heavy doors usually come down to worn or rusty rollers. We lift the panel, swap them, and adjust its height.
  • Track. A dented or pitted aluminum track can be capped with a stainless cover rather than replaced.
  • Locks and handles. Matched to the door’s maker when parts are still made.
  • Weatherstripping. New pile and seals stop the whistling and the water at the threshold.

We give you the repair price and, if it’s close, the replacement price too, so the decision is yours. More fixes are listed on window and glass repair.

When to replace

A door with fogged glass, a bent frame, a threshold that lets water in, or panels too heavy to lift safely is usually ready to go. Replacing a slider in Cape Coral also brings the opening up to storm code, which most owners do with an impact-rated door so the largest glass opening on the lanai needs no panel bolted over it.

Configurations

Two-panel (one fixed, one moving) is standard. Three- and four-panel doors open up a lanai further, and pocket configurations slide into the wall for a fully open corner, though they need wall work and cost more. Frame finishes match your windows: white, bronze or black.

Slider prices are estimates based on Southwest Florida installer ranges, not a quote. Panel count, height, glass and the condition of the opening set the final number.

Sliding door questions

Why does my slider drag?

Nine times out of ten the rollers are worn or the track is packed with grit. Cleaning helps briefly; new rollers fix it properly.

Can you fix a slider that came off the track?

Usually, yes. We re-hang the panel, check the rollers and adjust it so it can’t jump again.

Is a permit needed for an impact slider?

Yes. Replacing a sliding glass door is permitted work in Cape Coral, and we pull and close the permit.

Can the glass in a slider be swapped on its own?

Often. A fogged or cracked pane can be swapped if the frame is in good shape. We confirm on site.
